The Department of Agriculture (DoA) offers comprehensive bursaries for students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in agriculture, veterinary science, food science, and related fields for the 2027 academic year.

The bursary covers tuition fees, accommodation, study materials, meals, and a monthly allowance.

This bursary targets previously disadvantaged and economically disadvantaged individuals, particularly those from rural and underprivileged communities. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must apply for one of the listed fields of study — applications for unlisted fields will not be considered.
  • Level 6 (70–79%) in Mathematics and Physical Science for: BSc Engineering (Agricultural/Bioresource), Bachelor of Engineering in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc).
  • Level 5 (60–69%) in Mathematics and Physical Science for: Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing (BVetNurs.), BHSci Veterinary Technology, BSc Agric. Entomology, Food Science, Animal Health, Plant Pathology, Plant Science, Soil Science, Agronomy, Viticulture and Oenology.
  • Level 4 (50–59%) in Mathematics and Physical Science for: BAS Food Science and Technology, Diploma in Food Technology.
  • Relevant undergraduate qualification for: Advanced Diploma in agriculture-related fields, BSc Agric. Honours (Plant Pathology or Entomology).
  • Applicants awaiting university acceptance letters or results may apply, but must submit outstanding documents within 3 days of the release of Grade 12 results in January 2027.
  • Affidavits will not be accepted as supporting documents.
  • Late applications will not be considered
