The Thebe Foundation invites eligible South African students to apply for the Dr EJ Mabuza Scholarship for the 2027 academic year. The scholarship was established in 2016 in honour of Dr Enos Mabuza, recognising the critical role he played in establishing Thebe Investment Corporation alongside Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, and Beyers Naude.
The initiative supports financially needy students at higher education institutions, contributing to the development of graduates who are confident in their African identity and heritage, and equipped with the skills to become professionals in their chosen fields.
The scholarship is comprehensive and covers tuition fees, textbooks, accredited accommodation costs, meals, and a transport allowance for students living at home. The Thebe Foundation also provides support services throughout the programme to ensure all recipients are supported in their academic efforts through to graduation.
Please note the following important conditions. The scholarship does not cover historical debt incurred before 2027, and discovery of historical debt at any stage may result in termination of the bursary. Successful applicants will be required to terminate any other funding, including NSFAS, if they accept the scholarship offer.
