The Sanlam Actuarial Bursary supports students pursuing Actuarial Science degrees, providing comprehensive financial support and professional development opportunities. This bursary is available to matriculants enrolling in Actuarial Science in 2027 and current 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year Actuarial Science students who are South African citizens.

Sanlam offers tuition and accommodation coverage, general allowances for books and living expenses, mentoring from qualified actuarial professionals, vacation work placements, and guaranteed employment upon completion of studies. The bursary extends beyond undergraduate studies to include support for actuarial board examinations and diverse work rotation opportunities across multiple disciplines.

Requirements

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be currently enrolled in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of Actuarial Science studies, or be a matriculant intending to study Actuarial Science in 2027
  • Achieve above 90% in Mathematics and an overall A aggregate for matriculants
  • Submit full academic transcripts showing strong academic performance
  • Provide proof of registration and fee statement for current students
  • Submit final 2025 Grade 11 results and Grade 12 mid-year 2026 results for matriculants
  • Include NBT results if available
  • Provide certified copy of ID and matric certificate
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and involvement in extra-mural activities
  • Show commitment to becoming a qualified actuary
  • Display strong problem-solving abilities and mathematical aptitude
  • Exhibit focus, discipline, and willingness to complete years of study and training
