The Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme is a Western Cape Government initiative offering full funding for studies in engineering and the built environment at Higher Education Institutions in the Western Cape. The name Masakh’iSizwe comes from the Nguni languages and means “Let’s Build the Nation”, reflecting the programme’s goal of building trained professionals and empowering youth through tertiary qualifications.
Established in 2006, the programme awards external bursaries for fields deemed scarce and critical by the Department of Infrastructure. The bursary is comprehensive, covering tuition fees, all prescribed books and materials, support programmes, and accommodation and meals (or transport costs).
Preference is given to persons with disabilities, financially disadvantaged learners, female learners, and applicants from the Western Cape, particularly those residing outside the Cape Metro.
