Details

The Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing at the University of Pretoria is a four-year degree at the Onderstepoort Faculty of Veterinary Science that qualifies graduates to practise as veterinary nurses — essential members of the veterinary healthcare team who assist veterinarians in clinical care, anaesthesia monitoring, patient nursing, diagnostic sample collection, and client education. Students receive clinical training at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, gaining experience across companion animal, equine, and exotic species nursing. Veterinary nurses are registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) and are in increasing demand as South Africa's companion animal sector grows and veterinary care standards rise. The programme develops graduates who are technically skilled, compassionate, and able to work effectively in busy veterinary environments.

Admission requirements: English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 5 (60-69%); Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy: Level 4 (50-59%); Life Sciences: Level 4 (50-59%); APS: 28 (excluding Life Orientation).
