The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at the University of Pretoria is a four-year professional degree in the Faculty of Health Sciences that qualifies graduates to practise as occupational therapists, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Occupational therapists help people across all ages to participate in everyday activities — work, self-care, leisure, and social participation — by addressing the physical, cognitive, emotional, and environmental barriers that prevent full participation. Students develop expertise in physical rehabilitation, mental health OT, paediatric OT, community-based rehabilitation, and sensory integration. South Africa's high burden of disability from injuries, strokes, HIV, and cerebral palsy creates significant demand for qualified occupational therapists across all healthcare settings.
Admission requirements: English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 5 (60-69%); Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy: Level 4 (50-59%); Life Sciences: Level 4 (50-59%); APS: 30 (excluding Life Orientation).
