Hortgro offers bursaries to students interested in careers within the South African deciduous fruit industry. The programme is designed to support students in agricultural fields that require scarce and critical skills. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate funding, mentorship, internships, and work-integrated learning opportunities to equip students for the agricultural sector. Preference is given to disciplines that support ethical trade, sustainable agriculture, and industry development.

Requirements

  • South African citizenship
  • Interest in pursuing studies in agricultural-related disciplines
  • Studies aligned with the following fields:
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Horticulture (Production/Post-harvest)
    • Agricultural Biotechnology
    • Soil and Water Science
    • Marketing
    • Agricultural Science
    • Project Management
    • Entomology
    • Agri-Management
    • Microbiology
    • Plant Pathology
  • Preference for students pursuing studies in scarce and critical skill areas
  • Good academic standing
  • Participation in mentorship and quarterly progress reporting is required
