Overview/Details

Astron Energy, the second-largest fuel retail network in Southern Africa with over 800 service stations, is offering a full-cost bursary programme for the 2027 academic year. Astron Energy owns and operates the crude oil refinery in Cape Town with a processing capacity of 100 000 barrels per day, a lubricant manufacturing plant in Durban, and several fuel terminals across the region. The bursary forms part of the company’s commitment to skills development, socio-economic transformation, and South Africa’s broader development agenda.

This is one of the more comprehensive corporate bursary packages available to South African students. It covers tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, food, and a monthly allowance. Recipients also receive ongoing psychosocial support, light-touch mentorship for personal and professional growth, a Work Readiness Programme, and academic support in the form of private tutoring.

The bursary is offered on a work-back basis. For every year of funding received, recipients are obligated to work back at Astron Energy. Failure to fulfil this obligation may result in the recipient being required to refund the full value of bursary benefits received, plus interest. Any applicant or recipient found not to be studying full-time or in paid employment will have their bursary terminated and will be required to refund all benefits.
