2027 Northam Zondereinde Mine External Bursary

Overview/Details

Northam Platinum’s Zondereinde Mine is offering external bursaries to top-performing South African students for the 2027 academic year. Zondereinde is an established Platinum Group Metal (PGM) mine situated in the Limpopo province, approximately 40km from Thabazimbi near the Pilanesberg and Waterberg Reserve. The mine produces around 300 000 PGM ounces annually and is known for its pioneering technology and world-class metallurgical infrastructure.

The bursary is awarded in line with Northam Platinum’s approved Social and Labour Plan (SLP) and is targeted at students pursuing mining-related qualifications at major South African universities and Universities of Technology. Preference is given to applicants from communities surrounding the mine.

The bursary is open to both first year students and students already enrolled at tertiary institutions. Applicants must be able to prove provisional admission at the institution of their choice before Zondereinde will consider their application.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid South African identity document
  • Must have passed the National Senior Certificate with an aggregate of 60% or more across all subjects. Applicants who are currently in Grade 12 should submit Grade 11 results and current Grade 12 results.
  • Students already enrolled at a tertiary institution must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 60% in all major subjects
  • First year applicants must provide proof of admission to their institution
  • Must be able to prove provisional admission at the institution of choice for the preferred field of study
  • Preference will be given to applicants from communities surrounding the Zondereinde Mine
