The Diploma in Policing at the University of South Africa (Unisa) is a three-year open distance learning qualification that develops the legal, management, and operational knowledge needed to apply policing, safety, and security principles effectively in South African communities. Students study criminal law, police administration, community policing, crime investigation, and safety management — building the integrated competencies required at a supervisory level within the South African Police Service (SAPS) or private security sector. Unisa's TVET college partnership provides face-to-face class support at selected campuses, improving access for SAPS members across the country. The diploma enables police officers and security professionals to formalise their knowledge and advance into management roles.

Admission requirements: National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma endorsement and at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning, or a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least a D symbol on HG in the language of teaching and learning, or an appropriate Higher Certificate.
