Overview/Details

The SITFE bursary is one of South Africa’s oldest private sector education funding initiatives. The 2026 bursary is focused on supporting students pursuing a Diploma in Agriculture, particularly those from sugarcane-growing communities in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. The programme prioritises learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and is aimed at redressing inequalities in science, agriculture, and engineering education.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be a resident of a sugarcane-growing area in KwaZulu-Natal or Mpumalanga
  • Must have applied or been accepted to study towards a Diploma in Agriculture
  • Preference given to:
    • Children of sugarcane farmworkers
    • First-year students
    • Applicants from communities where sugar industry infrastructure exists

Qualifying Institutions:

  • Owen Sithole College of Agriculture
  • Cedara College of Agriculture
  • University of Mpumalanga (Diploma in Agriculture)
