2026 NRF Blockchain Technology Scholarship

Overview/Details

This scholarship is offered by the South Africa (DSI/NRF)/Switzerland Bilateral Chair for PhD and MSc studies in Blockchain Technology, beginning in the 2026 academic year. It aims to develop expertise in blockchain innovation and support postgraduate studies with full or partial funding.

Master’s Degree:

  • Full funding: R175,795 per annum (2 years) + R20,000 for a study device
  • Partial funding: R118,795 per annum (2 years)

PhD Degree:

  • Full funding: R182,318 per annum (3 years) + R20,000 for a study device
  • Partial funding: R107,318 per annum (3 years)

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have a background in Engineering, Management, ICT, or Science
  • Have achieved at least 65% in their previous degree
  • Be 32 years or younger for PhD applications and 30 years or younger for Master’s applications
  • Belong to a designated group (African, Coloured, or Indian)
  • If selected, complete a follow-up application through the NRF portal under the SARChI Chair’s support
