Overview/Details

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT), in partnership with Nedbank Arts Affinity and supported by the MTN Foundation South Africa, offers the Nyoloha Scholarship Programme for the 2026 academic year. This scholarship provides financial assistance of up to R300,000 for young South African performers and visual artists to study at an accredited South African arts institution. The programme also includes mentorship and skills development workshops for selected finalists.

Fields of Study Covered:

  • Performing Arts (Singing, Dance, Acting)
  • Digital/Visual Arts
  • Selected applicants will participate in bi-weekly workshops from June to August 2025
  • Finalists will attend a mentorship programme in Johannesburg, with meals, travel, and accommodation covered
  • A final exhibition and gala night will be held in October 2025, where the scholarship winners will be announced

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Aged between 17 and 25 years
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric with university exemption
  • Must intend to pursue an undergraduate qualification in performing or visual arts
  • Must be starting the first year of study in 2026
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Must be passionate, talented, and committed to the arts
  • Willing to participate in the 6-month programme
  • Planning to study at an ACT-approved accredited institution in South Africa
  • Must not be a professional artist or hold a tertiary qualification in arts
  • Previous ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme finalists are not eligible

Required Supporting Documents:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate or latest results
  • Portfolio of work (for visual/digital arts applicants)
  • Video audition (for performing arts applicants)
  • Motivational letter
