The Bachelor of Arts in Law (BA Law) at UJ is a three-year degree that provides foundational legal knowledge combined with humanities disciplines, offering students an understanding of the South African legal system, constitutional law, and legal reasoning without qualifying them to practise as attorneys. The qualification serves as a pathway to postgraduate legal study or careers in legal administration, compliance, public policy, NGO work, and business. It differs from the LLB — graduates wishing to practise law must complete a further postgraduate LLB.
