The Diploma in Security Management at the University of South Africa (Unisa) is a three-year open distance learning qualification that trains students in the management of security functions, risk assessment, physical security, and personnel management within South Africa's large and growing private security industry. Students develop competence in security legislation, threat analysis, security operations management, and business administration — equipping them for supervisory and management roles in one of South Africa's largest employment sectors. South Africa has over 500,000 registered private security officers and one of the world's most regulated security industries, creating significant demand for formally qualified security managers. Unisa's TVET college partnership provides face-to-face support at campuses across the country.

Admission requirements: National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma endorsement and at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning, or a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least a D symbol on HG in the language of teaching and learning, or a Higher Certificate in Criminal Justice or Law (NQF Level 5).
