The BEd in Senior Phase and FET Teaching specialising in Life Sciences at UJ is a four-year professional degree that trains qualified high school teachers to teach Life Sciences (Biology) across the Senior Phase (Grades 8-9) and FET phase (Grades 10-12). Offered at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, the programme provides student teachers with rigorous scientific content knowledge alongside specialist pedagogical training in biological sciences within the South African CAPS curriculum.
Life Sciences is one of the most popular FET subjects in South African schools and a gateway to careers in health sciences, environmental management, and biological research. Well-qualified Life Sciences teachers are consistently in demand across both public and private schools. Admission requires a minimum APS of 28 (excluding Life Orientation), English Home Language at 60% or First Additional Language at 70%, Mathematics at 50% or Mathematical Literacy at 70%, Life Sciences at 50%, and Physical Sciences at 50%. NCV applicants require 3 fundamental subjects at 60-69% including English and 3 vocational subjects at 70-79%. The programme is offered full-time at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus.
