The Bachelor of Nursing at NWU is a four-year comprehensive professional nursing programme offered at the Mahikeng and Potchefstroom campuses, qualifying graduates for registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as professional nurses. Students are trained across all four nursing qualifications simultaneously — general nursing, psychiatry, community health, and midwifery — giving them the broadest possible scope of practice upon qualification. Community Health Nurse – Provide primary healthcare services, health education, and disease prevention in community health centres and mobile clinics serving rural and peri-urban South African populations.
Midwife – Manage antenatal care, labour, delivery, and postnatal care for mothers and newborns at South African clinics and hospitals addressing the country’s maternal health priorities.
Psychiatric Nurse – Support patients with mental health conditions through assessment, medication management, and therapeutic care within South Africa’s public mental health facilities or private psychiatric hospitals.
Nurse Manager – Lead and manage nursing teams, plan staffing, and ensure quality patient care standards at district hospitals or nursing departments within the National Health Insurance system.
