Details

The BCom Management Sciences Extended Curriculum Programme is a four-year extended version of the standard three-year BCom degree, designed to support students who require additional academic preparation in foundational subjects such as Mathematics and Language. The programme covers core management disciplines including business management, economics, financial accounting, and quantitative methods. It is particularly aimed at students from under-resourced schooling backgrounds, enabling broader access to higher education in South Africa.

This programme is offered over four years. You must meet the minimum admission requirements and you will get preference if you also meet the socio-economic status (SES) requirements of the University’s admission policy and the SES level determined by the University. Approximately 100 students can be accommodated in the programme each year.

Please note:

  • Only South African citizens can register for this programme.
  • If you have repeated any of your Grade 12 subjects (NSC or equivalent curriculum) to improve your marks (either through a bridging programme or in any other way), you are not allowed to register in the ECP.
  • No transferring applicants from another faculty or institution can be selected for the programme.

Career Prospects

  • A Business Analyst who helps South African organisations identify operational inefficiencies and develop data-driven strategies for improved performance.
  • A Human Resources Manager responsible for recruitment, employee relations, and talent development within South African corporates or public sector entities.
  • A Marketing Manager who develops and implements brand and sales strategies for South African businesses competing in local and regional markets.
  • An Operations Manager overseeing supply chain, logistics, and production processes within South African manufacturing or retail organisations.
  • An Entrepreneur who leverages management sciences knowledge to establish and grow a small or medium enterprise contributing to South Africa’s economic development.
