The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a comprehensive undergraduate degree that covers music theory, history, performance, and composition within both Western and African musical traditions. It equips students with a broad academic and practical foundation in music, preparing them for careers in the South African arts, education, and entertainment industries. The programme often integrates South African indigenous music and cultural contexts into its curriculum.

  • In the main instrument (or in singing) at least a practical standard
    in classical music equivalent to the Grade VII examination and
    theoretical knowledge equivalent to any of the examining bodies’
    Grade V theory examination.
  • Candidates must be available for an audition and theoretical
    test at the Department of Music in Stellenbosch, where they must
    demonstrate proof of the required standards. Upon receiving
