The City of Johannesburg’s Spatial Transformation Projects Internship offers an opportunity for graduates and students in the built environment field to gain practical experience in project management, contract administration, and urban planning. Interns will support the tracking and implementation of spatial transformation projects, ensuring delivery in line with agreed work plans. Additionally, they will coordinate engagements with project partners, manage project data, and provide administrative support to the Directorate’s operations.

  • Duration & Remuneration:

    • Graduates (Qualification Completed, 360+ credits): R9 960.45 per month (Basic salary, no benefits)
    • Students (Currently Enrolled): R3 500 per month (Basic salary, no benefits)

Requirements

  • Matric/Grade 12 plus an NQF Level 7 qualification in the built environment or an equivalent field.
  • Exposure to project management processes and modules (advantageous).
  • Confirmation letter from institution (if still a student).
  • Computer literacy (MS Office applications).
  • Only residents of the City of Johannesburg will be considered.
  • Key Learning Areas:

    • Support the implementation of project work plans.
    • Draft project expenditure reports.
    • Assist in workflow management and office administration.
    • Monitor project tracking and contract administration.
    • Maintain data and project performance records.
  • Competencies & Skills:

    • Technical Knowledge:
      • SPLUMA (Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act).
      • Project Management Frameworks & Legislation.
      • Local Government Municipal Acts & Regulations (MFMA, Systems Act, Performance Management, etc.).
    • Skills Required:
      • Computer literacy (MS Office).
      • Basic Project Management skills.
      • Ability to analyze and interpret large volumes of data.
      • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
      • Interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
      • Ability to resolve conflicts and manage complex negotiations
