2027 NSFAS Bursary

• Must be a South African citizen
• Must be studying or planning to study at a public university or TVET college
• SASSA grant recipients automatically qualify
• Household income must not exceed R350 000 per year
• Students with disabilities from households earning up to R600 000 per year also qualify
• Students who have already completed a qualification do not qualify, unless they are applying for an approved funded postgraduate qualification

Required documents

All applicants must submit:

• South African ID or smart ID card
• Unabridged birth certificate (if you are under 18)
• Signed and dated NSFAS consent form
• ID copies of your parents or guardian
• Death certificate if a parent has passed away

Household income documents (at least one of the following):

• Payslips or IRP5 for everyone who earns in your household
• A SASSA letter if your household receives a grant
• An affidavit if there is no income in the household

If applicable:

• Disability: completed NSFAS Disability Annexure A form, signed by a qualified medical practitioner
• Vulnerable child: completed vulnerable child declaration form (if you are a legal orphan or in the care of a guardian), and a supporting letter from a social worker

All documents must be clearly readable. Make sure your name and ID number on your application match your Home Affairs records exactly, as mismatches are one of the most common reasons applications are delayed.
