The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) in Mining Engineering at UJ is a three-year NQF Level 7 degree offered at the Doornfontein Campus. The programme prepares graduates to plan, design, and manage mining operations in surface and underground environments, covering rock mechanics, mine design, ventilation, blasting, surveying, and mine safety in the context of South Africa's diverse mineral resources.
South Africa remains one of the world's leading producers of gold, platinum, chrome, and manganese, and the mining sector is a major employer of engineering technologists. UJ's programme is accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), and graduates can register as Professional Engineering Technologists. The minimum APS of 23 provides access to one of South Africa's most economically significant career paths.
Admission requires a minimum APS of 23 (excluding Life Orientation), English at 50%, Mathematics or Technical Mathematics at 60%, and Physical Sciences or Technical Sciences at 60%. NCV applicants require English and Mathematics at 60%. Selection is based on academic merit.
