The BEd (Senior Phase and FET: Mathematics) at TUT prepares qualified mathematics teachers for Grade 7 to Grade 12, addressing one of South Africa's most acute educational challenges — the severe shortage of competent mathematics educators, particularly in township and rural schools. Students combine deep mathematical content knowledge in algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics with evidence-based pedagogical approaches that make mathematics accessible and engaging for diverse learners. The programme requires concurrent study of Life Sciences or Physical Sciences, equipping graduates to teach across Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects. School-based practicals are conducted in secondary schools in Gauteng and Limpopo.
