The Bachelor of Earth Sciences in Mining and Environmental Geology at the University of Venda trains students to understand geological processes and apply that knowledge to mineral exploration, mine development, and environmental rehabilitation. Students study mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, hydrogeology, and mine waste management, gaining skills highly relevant to South Africa's mining industry — one of the most significant on the African continent. The programme also addresses the growing need for geoscientists who can manage the environmental impacts of mining in compliance with South Africa's Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA).

Mineral Exploration Geologist – Identifies and evaluates mineral deposits for junior and major mining companies operating in Southern Africa.
Environmental Geochemist – Investigates the chemical interactions between rocks, soils, and water in mining-impacted environments, supporting remediation of acid mine drainage and tailings facilities.
