The Diploma in Consumer Science in Food and Nutrition at Walter Sisulu University is a three-year vocationally oriented qualification offered at the Buffalo City campus. It equips graduates with science-based food and nutrition knowledge, practical culinary skills, and consumer insight to work effectively across food production, food retail, and food service sectors. The programme addresses South Africa's growing demand for skilled food scientists and nutritionists capable of tackling food insecurity, developing culturally relevant food products, and contributing to the nutrition and wellness industry. Graduates are additionally empowered to identify entrepreneurial opportunities by commercialising indigenous food recipes and entering the food and beverage industry independently.
