The Bachelor of Library and Information Science at UJ is a three-year degree that equips students with the professional knowledge and skills to manage, organise, and disseminate information in libraries, archives, knowledge centres, and information services. The programme covers information retrieval, cataloguing, records management, digital libraries, and community information services.

As South Africa's public institutions, schools, and private sector organisations invest in knowledge management and digital transformation, qualified information professionals are increasingly in demand. The degree also provides a pathway into research librarianship, academic library management, and postgraduate study in information science.

Admission requires a minimum APS of 28 (excluding Life Orientation) and at least 60% in English. NCV applicants are not considered for this programme. Selection is based on academic merit.
