Details

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Sol Plaatje University is a one-year full-time professional teaching qualification for graduates who hold an approved Bachelor's degree or equivalent NQF Level 6 Diploma. The programme enables graduates from non-education fields to enter the teaching profession by developing pedagogical knowledge, classroom management skills, and curriculum competencies aligned with South Africa's CAPS framework. SPU's PGCE is grounded in Kimberley school practice, with 10 weeks of compulsory teaching practice at selected schools — giving students authentic exposure to the diverse learner communities of the Northern Cape.

An approved Bachelor's degree at NQF Level 7 or an appropriate 360-credit exit NQF Level 6 Diploma is required. The degree or diploma must include two recognised school subjects, with a major qualifying as a school-approved subject at NQF Level 7 (at least 48 credits over 2–3 academic years) plus one SP school subject at NQF Level 6 (at least 24 credits over one academic year).
