The Extended Diploma in Public Relations and Communication at UJ is a four-year NQF Level 6 qualification designed for students who meet academic requirements but need additional academic development. The extended curriculum provides the same professional competencies as the standard three-year Diploma — covering public relations strategy, media relations, event management, stakeholder communication, and community engagement — but with structured academic support in the first year.
The programme is offered at the Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus and articulates to the Advanced Diploma in Communication Management at NQF Level 7, providing a clear pathway for career progression. It is particularly valuable for students from under-resourced schooling environments who have the potential to excel in the communications industry.
Admission requires a minimum APS of 24 (excluding Life Orientation) and at least 50% in English. NCV applicants are considered with English at 80% and other subjects at 70%. Only first-time entering students qualify for extended programmes. Selection is based on academic merit.
