Key Competency Requirements:

To be eligible for the Student Medical Technician Programme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 with a minimum of 50% in Physical Science or Life Science/Biology, along with a minimum of 50% in Mathematics.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Basic understanding of Afrikaans (reading, writing, and comprehension).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and committed to rigorous study.
  • Strong work ethic and dedication.
  • Willingness to collect and process blood and body products.
  • A commitment to providing excellent service and responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Availability for shifts and after-hours work as required.

Selection Process:

The selection process for this program is highly competitive and rigorous. It includes the following stages:

  1. Screening of applications and academic results.
  2. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete online proficiency tests.
  3. The highest-scoring candidates in the proficiency tests will be invited for panel interviews.

Training Locations: The theoretical training will be conducted at the PathCare Academy in Cape Town, as well as at satellite campuses. Practical training will take place at PathCare Laboratories across South Africa, with students assigned according to available seats.
