The Diploma in Co-operatives Management at the University of Zululand is one of very few programmes in South Africa dedicated to the theory and practice of cooperative enterprise — a form of business ownership increasingly recognised as a vehicle for inclusive economic development and community empowerment. The programme covers cooperative governance, financial management, marketing, operations, and the legal framework of cooperatives in South Africa, including the Cooperative Act. KwaZulu-Natal's agricultural, consumer, financial, and worker cooperatives provide an active practical learning environment for students.

Cooperative Manager – Lead and manage a cooperative enterprise in agriculture, retail, housing, or financial services, ensuring governance, sustainability, and member benefit.
Development Finance Officer (Co-ops) – Support cooperative development through government funding programmes, SEFA, or provincial economic development initiatives.
Agricultural Co-operative Coordinator – Manage farmer cooperatives in KwaZulu-Natal’s sugar, dairy, or vegetable production sectors.
Community Enterprise Facilitator – Support the formation and development of new cooperatives in under-served communities through NGOs or government departments.
Auditor (Cooperative Sector) – Provide financial oversight and compliance support to cooperative entities in line with the Cooperative Act and CIPC requirements.
