The Amazon (Software Development Engineer) Recruitment Bursary was established in 2018 to nurture talent and promote diversity in the tech industry. Successful applicants will receive comprehensive funding to cover tuition fees, accommodation, academic materials, and more. Additionally, they will have the chance to complete a paid formal Amazon internship during summer vacation, where they will be assessed for a full-time permanent role as a Software Development Engineer (SDE).

The Amazon Recruitment Bursary covers a range of essential costs:

  • Stationery and books
  • A personal computer
  • Transport

The Role of an SDE at Amazon

Software Development Engineers at Amazon work on real-world, large-scale challenges using cutting-edge technology. SDEs have the opportunity to influence the direction of technology and contribute to solving complex technical problems in areas like distributed systems, data mining, automation, scalability, and security.

Amazon SDE Internship

As an Amazon SDE intern, you will embark on a transformative journey, owning and delivering impactful projects that matter to customers. Throughout the internship, you'll learn from experienced Amazonians, expand your network, and access training opportunities and social events for personal and professional development. Successful interns have the opportunity to be offered a full-time permanent role upon completing their studies.

Who Can Apply – Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this Bursary Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Current undergraduate students entering their final year of a three or four-year degree programme.
  • Must continue studying for an Honours degree in 2025 after completing the internship.
  • Studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Information Technology.
  • Consistently obtaining an average of 65% and above.
  • Display a clear motivation for Amazon and software development engineering.
  • Commit to accepting a full-time permanent role if offered after the internship assessment.
  • Only South African citizens may apply.

How to Apply

Applications open on 1 June and close on 10 September. Apply on StudyTrust's online platform before the closing date to be considered for a bursary beginning in 2024. Shortlisted candidates will undergo additional assessments with Amazon.
