The DSV Empowerment Trust (DSV-ET) has been enriching the lives of South Africans through education since 2004. Over the past two decades, the Trust has provided more than 1 000 study grants to young South Africans, beginning with just 18 beneficiaries and growing into one of the more impactful corporate education trusts in the country. The majority of its beneficiaries are Black women under the age of 35, reflecting the Trust’s commitment to empowering youth and promoting gender equality.
What makes the DSV-ET unusual among corporate bursaries is its founding philosophy: the Trust does not prescribe a specific field of study. Instead, it was designed to allow beneficiaries to follow their natural talent and pursue the qualification best suited to their abilities and ambitions. The Trust also does not require repayment, making it a genuine grant rather than a loan-based scheme. While the benefits of the grant are immediately felt by the recipient, its positive influence extends to families and communities far beyond the individual.
The top five qualifications historically completed by DSV-ET beneficiaries include the Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Medicine or Surgery, and Bachelor of Technology.
