The Gauteng Department of Social Development (DSD) is offering bursaries for the 2025 academic year to support students residing in Gauteng who are passionate about the social sector. The bursary aims to promote skills development and quality education among academically deserving students within the province. It covers registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, and study materials, enabling recipients to focus on their studies without financial burden. Successful candidates will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the Gauteng DSD.

Requirements

  • South African citizenship
  • Permanent residency in Gauteng for at least one year prior to application
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Studying or intending to study full-time towards a qualification in one of the following fields in 2025:
    • Clinical Psychology
    • Community Development
    • Demography and Population Studies
    • Financial Management
    • Occupational Therapy
  • Accepted or registered at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Strong academic record
  • Intention to pursue a career within the social sector
  • Not in receipt of any other bursary funding
  • Applications must be submitted in person. To apply:
    1. Collect the application form from any Gauteng Social Development office or institution.
    2. Prepare clear, certified copies of the following supporting documents:
      • Identity Document
      • Matric certificate
      • All educational qualifications completed
      • Proof of acceptance or registration at a tertiary institution
      • Motivational letter supporting your application
      • Proof of residence in Gauteng
      • Parents’ or guardians’ proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of SASSA grant or pension if applicable)
      • Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voting district verification
    3. Submit the completed application form and supporting documents to the Gauteng Social Development office or institution where you collected the form.

    Ensure all documents are clear and certified. Incomplete applications or missing documents may lead to disqualification. Successful candidates will be contacted within three months after the application deadline. If you do not receive feedback by this time, consider your application unsuccessful.
