The PSIRA External Study Bursary aims to financially support the legal children of security officers and security officers themselves who are accepted to study at accredited institutions of higher learning in South Africa. This funding forms part of PSIRA’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives to uplift the private security sector through educational support.

Requirements

  • The applicant must be employed in the private security sector or be a legal child of someone registered with PSIRA as a security officer
  • Both parent and applicant must be South African citizens
  • Applicant must be aged between 19 and 35
  • Applicant must have completed Grade 12 and be enrolled in an accredited institution for the 2026 academic year
  • Applications are accepted from all South African provinces
  • Postgraduate qualifications are not funded

Financial Aid Details:

  • TVET Certificates: Up to R25,000 per year (VAT inclusive)
  • Undergraduate Degrees/Diplomas: Up to R45,000 per year (VAT inclusive)
  • Duration: Covers tuition fees for one academic year (2026), renewable based on performance and funding availability
  • Applicants previously funded must submit current academic results and an outstanding balance statement
  • Only tuition fees are covered; no allowances for accommodation or books are specified
