The BEd (Senior Phase and FET: Consumer Sciences) at TUT prepares educators to teach Consumer Studies, Hospitality Studies, and Tourism to Grade 7 to Grade 12 learners — subjects that develop practical life skills and vocational competencies relevant to South Africa's hospitality, tourism, and consumer economy. Students develop content knowledge in food science, household management, and tourism alongside secondary school pedagogy and assessment design. South Africa's tourism and hospitality sector is a major employer and requires a pipeline of well-trained secondary school graduates, making qualified teachers in these subjects critically important. The programme includes practical placements in secondary schools in Gauteng and Limpopo.
