The Bachelor of Architecture (Extended) at TUT is a five-year programme that includes a foundation year of academic support, designed for students who show potential for architectural study but require additional preparation in design thinking, mathematics, and communication skills. The extended curriculum provides the same professional outcomes as the four-year BArch, equipping graduates for SACAP registration and careers in architectural practice, urban design, and built environment consulting. This pathway broadens access to a scarce profession in South Africa, where the demand for registered architectural practitioners significantly exceeds supply. Students develop portfolios, technical competencies, and design sensibilities through progressive studio-based learning.
