The Bachelor of Education in SP & FET Teaching: Languages at DUT prepares graduates to teach English and indigenous African languages — primarily isiZulu and isiXhosa — in South African secondary schools. Offered at the Pietermaritzburg Midlands Campus, the four-year degree recognises KwaZulu-Natal's unique multilingual context and develops professional teachers who can promote literacy, multilingualism, and cultural understanding. Qualified language teachers are in high demand as South Africa works to improve reading and literacy outcomes across all school phases.
