The Extended BCom in Economic Sciences with Econometrics at NWU's Mahikeng campus is a four-year programme that provides students with additional foundational preparation before progressing to the full Econometrics curriculum. The extended year equips students with the mathematical and analytical foundations required for rigorous econometric study, broadening access to this high-value quantitative discipline. South Africa needs more quantitatively skilled graduates who can contribute to evidence-based policy and economic analysis, and this programme plays a role in developing that pipeline from historically under-resourced communities. Graduates are prepared for entry-level analytical roles and postgraduate study in economics or data science.
