The Bachelor of Social Work at Walter Sisulu University is a four-year professional degree at the Mthatha campus whose knowledge areas encompass human wellbeing, social maladies, social development, and social justice. Students learn about diverse models that enhance quality of life and acquire skills to address social inequality and poverty — particularly relevant in the Eastern Cape, one of South Africa's most socioeconomically challenged provinces. The programme aims to produce competitive graduates who are responsive to the psycho-socioeconomic needs of marginalised, indigenous, and diverse communities in an ethical and sustainable manner. All admitted students are subject to character reference checks as part of the selection process.
