The Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria is a six-year professional degree at the Onderstepoort Faculty of Veterinary Science — Africa's premier veterinary institution — that qualifies graduates to practise as veterinarians, registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC). Students develop competencies in companion animal medicine and surgery, large animal and equine practice, wildlife medicine, poultry health, and veterinary public health — with clinical training at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, one of Africa's largest veterinary teaching hospitals. South Africa's significant livestock, wildlife, and companion animal sectors, combined with its veterinary public health responsibilities, create strong demand for veterinarians across private practice, government, conservation, and international organisations.
