The BCom 4 General (Extended Curriculum) at UKZN (Pietermaritzburg and Westville) extends the standard three-year BCom General over four years with additional academic literacy and numeracy support for students from disadvantaged educational backgrounds who show potential for success. Preference is given to applicants from Quintile 1–3 schools, and the programme's bridging year builds the competencies in language, mathematics, and critical thinking needed for success in commerce-related study. On completion, graduates hold the same BCom (General) qualification as mainstream students, with the same career opportunities.
