The Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) at Nelson Mandela University is a three-year degree that provides the first step toward professional registration as an architect in South Africa. The programme explores spatial design, architectural theory, building technology, environmental sustainability, and the social responsibilities of design in the South African urban context. Students engage with the unique challenges of designing for South Africa's diverse communities, from low-cost housing to public buildings, and are prepared to continue with postgraduate studies leading to SACAP registration. Admission is subject to departmental selection.
