Details

The Bachelor of Science in Entomology at the University of Pretoria is a three-year degree in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences that specialises in the scientific study of insects — the most species-rich group of animals on Earth and organisms of enormous ecological and economic importance. Entomologists study insect biology, taxonomy, behaviour, ecology, and their roles as crop pests, disease vectors, pollinators, and decomposers. South Africa's agricultural sector depends critically on pollination services and is threatened by insect pest outbreaks, making entomologists essential to food production and sustainable agriculture. UP's entomology department is internationally recognised for its research and has strong links with the Agricultural Research Council's Plant Protection Research Institute.
