The Bachelor of Health Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences at MUT is a four-year degree that includes 18 months of clinical practice in an accredited training laboratory. In the final year, students specialise in one of the following disciplines: Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Pathology, Cytogenetics, Cytopathology, Haematology, Histopathology, Immunohaematology, Immunology, Microbiology, Virology, Forensic Science, or Pharmacology. The degree requires a National Senior Certificate with a bachelor pass and produces graduates who are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), addressing a critical skills shortage in South Africa's public and private health sector.
