Overview/Details

The Sage External Bursary supports previously disadvantaged South African youth and students living with disabilities in pursuing undergraduate studies at registered public universities, with a focus on IT, Accounting, and Computer Sciences.

The bursary covers tuition, residence or private accommodation, and stationery and books. Costs are capped and applied to both current fees and historical study debt.

Students with disabilities receive extended eligibility, qualifying for funding across all fields of study at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and are assessed under a lower minimum academic threshold.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must qualify as a previously disadvantaged individual (PDI).
  • Must have applied for and been admitted to a public higher education institution.
  • Household income must fall between R350 000 and R500 000 per annum. Applicants below this bracket who have not been granted a DHET/NSFAS bursary will also be considered.
  • Field of study must be Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology, or Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Accounting and Finance. Students with disabilities may apply across all fields of study, including postgraduate programmes.
  • Current Grade 12 learners must have Mathematics and Physical Science marks of 75% or above.
  • Current university students must maintain a consistent average of 65% or above. A lower pass rate may be accepted for students with disabilities, provided it meets the institutional minimum pass rate.
  • Open to first-year through final-year undergraduate students. Postgraduate students with disabilities are also eligible.
