Overview/Details

The Old Mutual Imfundo Trust Scholarship funds Black South African students — with preference for women and those from rural or township backgrounds — pursuing undergraduate and selected postgraduate qualifications in investments-related fields at select South African universities.

Established in 2011, the Imfundo Trust (“imfundo” meaning education in Nguni) supports the transformation of the investment industry by enabling access to tertiary education. Scholarships are available to students entering their first or second year of study in 2027, with an exception for postgraduate Climate Studies applicants.

Funded fields include Business, Commerce, Finance, Management Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, and postgraduate Climate Studies. Funding covers full-time study at participating universities.

  • Must be enrolling in first or second year of an undergraduate programme in 2027 (Climate Studies postgraduate applicants are exempt from the year-of-study restriction).
  • Incoming first-year applicants (Grade 12): minimum 70% average in mid-year examinations, with at least 70% in Mathematics and 70% in English FAL or 60% in English Home Language.
  • Current first-year applicants: minimum 65% average in the most recent mid-year or June examinations.
  • Applicants from rural and township backgrounds are given preference.
  • Eligible degree fields: Business, Commerce, Finance, Management Sciences, Computer Science (including Computational Thinking), Data Science, Engineering, or postgraduate Climate Studies.
