The CSIR Sasol Foundation Bursary supports full-time, unemployed South African students pursuing undergraduate qualifications in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM). Administered by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in collaboration with the Sasol Foundation, the programme prioritises women, Black individuals, and people with disabilities.
Eligible fields of study include Mechatronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Flow Analysis, Process Engineering, Life Cycle Assessment, Information Technology, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Genetics, Cell Biology, Systems Engineering, and Industrial Engineering.
This is a comprehensive bursary covering all major costs associated with university study, including registration, tuition, accommodation, meals, living allowances, books, and a once-off laptop allowance. Financial support continues each year subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Successful recipients also benefit from mentorship with senior CSIR professionals, psychosocial and academic support, interview skills training, vacation work opportunities of up to six weeks per year, and the chance to contribute to real-life socioeconomic research projects under CSIR co-supervision.
