The LGSETA bursary programme supports unemployed South African students interested in pursuing full-time studies in qualifications aligned with the local government sector. The bursary forms part of the LGSETA Annual Performance Plan for 2025/2026 and aims to fund up to 230 bursaries.

Bursary Covers:

  • Full cost of tuition and related academic expenses

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens or permanent residents
  • Be accepted into or provisionally accepted for full-time study at a University, University of Technology, or TVET College
  • Be pursuing qualifications relevant to the local government sector (as per LGSETA’s approved qualification list)
  • Not be employed
  • Submit a complete application with all required documents

  • Public Administration and Public Management
  • Financial Management, Accounting, and Supply Chain
  • Civil and Electrical Engineering
  • Information Technology and Computer Science
  • Town and Regional Planning
  • Environmental Health and Disaster Risk Management
  • NCV Programmes in Business, IT, Engineering, Safety in Society, and more

Required Supporting Documents:

  • Certified ID copy (not older than 6 months)
  • Certified Matric certificate or Grade 12 results
  • Admission letter from institution
  • Proof of registration (for currently registered students)
  • Parent/Guardian proof of income or affidavit
