The Department of Agriculture offers comprehensive bursaries to support South African citizens pursuing agricultural studies in critical and scarce-skill fields. The bursary aims to uplift disadvantaged individuals from rural and poverty-stricken areas, covering full academic and living costs for the 2026 academic year.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be pursuing or intending to study in an agriculture-related field listed below
  • Meet minimum National Senior Certificate requirements per field (see below)
  • Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply
  • Combined household income should be disclosed and supported with proof (no affidavits accepted)

Eligible Fields of Study & Requirements:

  1. BSc Eng. Agricultural (Bioresource) Engineering – Maths & Physical Science: Level 6 (70–79)
  2. Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc.) – Maths & Physical Science: Level 6
  3. BSc Agric. Entomology / Food Science / Animal Science / Plant Pathology / Soil Science / Agronomy / Viticulture and Oenology – Maths & Physical Science: Level 5 (60–69)
  4. BAS Food Science and Technology / Diploma in Food Technology – Maths & Physical Science: Level 4 (50–59)
  5. Advanced Diploma in Agriculture-Related Fields – Various specializations
