The Santam Bursary Programme, established by Santam Limited, South Africa’s largest general insurer, aims to develop a steady stream of skilled graduates for the short-term insurance industry. The bursary is designed for students pursuing studies in actuarial science, agriculture, underwriting, hydraulics, and insurance assessment. It covers various costs, including:

  • Accommodation (including deposits and admin fees)
  • Learning materials (books and e-manuals)
  • Laptops
  • Monthly allowances
  • Travel/Transport allowances

Requirements

  1. Eligibility:
    • Must be a South African citizen.
  2. Academic Criteria:
    • Applicants must have achieved an average of 65% and above in their undergraduate degree and the latest examinations (mid-year/June).
  3. Study Programmes:
    • Students pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or Honours degree in the following fields:
      • Actuarial Science
      • Data Analytics
      • Data Sciences
      • Statistics
      • Agriculture
      • Civil Engineering
      • Geomatics
      • Mechanical Engineering
      • Construction
      • Insurance
      • Technical Accounting
      • Economics
      • Finance

  4. Specific Criteria for Agricultural Applicants:
    • Additional criteria may apply to students in agricultural studies.
  5. Skills and Competencies:
    • Microsoft Excel skills
    • Good communication (verbal and written)
    • Negotiation skills

    • Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively
    • Self-starter with a customer-focused approach
